Are there seasons in swimming? Are there breaks between the seasons?

Competitive:

Yes, the Short Course season (25 yard pool length) begins in August and finishes at the State Championship Meets in March. The Long Course season (50 meter pool length) begins in April and finishes at the State Championship Meets in July. There is typically a two-week team break between each season for competitors.

How many times should my swimmer attend practice each week?

Competitive:

Recommended practice attendance is based upon the swimmer’s level and age. Please see the Group descriptions for more information.

Can I go to more than one Swim Neptune pool location for practice?

Competitive:

Yes, we have practice locations throughout the Valley. Please be sure to check the Group calendar for that location to confirm practice times. You must notify your primary group coach if you plan to practice at another facility.

What is dryland?

Competitive:

Dryland is out-of-the-pool stretching and conditioning that relates directly to swimming. Some of the competitive groups do dryland each week as part of their overall training program.

What equipment is needed for swim practice/meets?

Competitive:

Practice equipment needed for each Group can be found on the website under Group Descriptions. Swimmers should always bring a large water bottle to practice.

Where can we go for nutritional tips?

Competitive:

USA Swimming has a lot of good information. Visit their Nutrition Center to learn more.

When is the best time to talk to the coach about my swimmer?

Competitive:

Before or after practice is the best time to talk to the coach about your swimmer for most coaches. Contact your child’s coach to set up a time to discuss their progress if you feel it helpful.

How do I sign up my swimmer for a meet?

Competitive:

Indicate your intent to attend a swim meet through the website. Click on the “attend/decline” button on the appropriate event. Your coach will review and sign up your swimmer for the events that your swimmer qualifies for, depending on the type of meet.

Who selects my swimmer's events?

Competitive:

Typically coaches select the meet entries for each swimmer, depending on the type of meet it is and the swimmer's experience. For some meets, an event file is included on the website so you can select the events, pending coach approval.

How many meets should my swimmer attend during the season?

Competitive:

Swim Neptune typically offers at least two swim meet opportunities each month. Talk to your coach about what meets are most appropriate for your swimmer.

What items should I pack for a swim meet?

Competitive:

Pack plenty of towels, portable chairs, sun block and a cooler with healthy snacks. Water/Gatorade are musts for any swim meet. Many families also bring tents for shade during the warmer months. Don't forget the swimmer's equipment, including racing suit, goggles (2 pairs are best) and a team swim cap. For the cooler months, swim parkas help keep your swimmer warm.

How do I find out my swimmer's results after the meet?

Competitive:

There are many swimming-focused downloadable apps, including Meet Mobile and USA Swimming's Deck Pass that carry live swim meet results and track your swimmer's goals and race history. In addition, results are posted during and after the swim meet, and posted on your swimmer's results page in the secure area of the Swim Neptune website. Times can also be found using the USA Swimming website's "Times Search" function.

Where do I find regional times and state meet qualifying times?

Competitive:

The Arizona Swimming website has regional and state qualifying times for each swim season.

Are there swim meet travel opportunities?

Competitive:

Yes! There are many team travel opportunities throughout the year both in-state and out-of-state. It is fun to travel with friends and teammates and to compete against different teams. Check the Events page on the website to see the schedule of upcoming swim meets.

Where can I find team apparel?

Competitive:

There are links on the Swim Neptune website to Team Apparel, as well as Swim Outlet and the Booster Team Store where you can find a variety of Neptune-branded apparel and merchandise.

How can we get involved in helping the team?

Competitive:

There are many opportunities to volunteer and support the team. These include all swim meets and team events. Sign up for these opportunities are found on the website. When you volunteer, points are earned towards your team Volunteer Requirement.

Is there a Volunteer Requirement for the team?

Competitive:

Is there a Fundraising Requirement for the team?

Competitive:

Is there training on how to use the website?

Competitive:
